The Foundation

The Hope-Hill Elementary Foundation was organized in 2014 by a group of neighborhood parents and community leaders to support Hope-Hill Elementary School, a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade traditional public school in the Old Fourth Ward. The Foundation's mission is to support learning for students and professional development and support for teachers at Hope-Hill.

The School

The Hope-Hill Elementary Foundation is a section 501(c)(3) organization exclusively supporting Hope-Hill Elementary School, the traditional public school serving the children of the Old Fourth Ward. Hope-Hill educates more than 430 students from pre-K through 5th grade.

“We must get beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths ...

and tell the world the glories of our journey.”

Dr. John Hope  |  Educator

The foundation is directed by a team of volunteer community members to supply additional resources to the school to help provide these children with the education necessary to overcome these obstacles. The Foundation assists Hope-Hill by subsidizing after-school tutorials where students can get the extra academic assistance they need to prepare for middle school. Funds are used to pay teachers as well as to provide bus transportation home after normal school hours. We leverage our financial subsidy with volunteers who can assist the teachers at the tutorials and thereby help more students. Last year, thanks to the leadership of Principal Maureen Wheeler and her dedicated teachers and staff, Hope-Hill was the most improved school in the entire Atlanta Public Schools district.
